Details:

The J.J. Abrams directed, Steven Spielberg produced “Super 8” is a film shrouded in mystery. No one really knows what it’s all about aside from the fact that it takes place in 1979, it is not a sequel or prequel to “Cloverfield”, and it won’t be in 3D. The cast doesn’t feature any big names, and includes Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning, Noah Emmerich, Ron Eldard, Joel Courtney, Riley Griffiths, Ryan Lee, Zach Mills, and AJ Michalka. There is also some manner of military presence, and a giant monster.

Over the past week, there’s been heavy buzz surrounding the top secret project from JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg entitled, Super 8. The plot hasn’t been described, no cast has been announced, and there was no countdown to the trailer. The first glimpse of the film debuted in front of Iron Man 2 last night (this morning considering how you look at it) and will continue to do so throughout its theatrical run. Along with the first trailer an official website has been launched to promote it and guess what? It’s one of the most cryptic pieces of marketing we’ve ever seen!

One thing, however, just got a little bit clearer, when you’ll be able to see “Super 8” in theaters. Paramount announced the release date as June 10, 2011. Abrams is notoriously secretive, so you’ll most likely have to see the movie to get any concrete answers.

Other films scheduled to open the same day are Universal’s fifth “Fast & Furious” movie, “Fast Five”, and “Something Borrowed”, a romantic comedy from Warner Bros. The release is sandwiched in between two big comic book movie releases. Matthew Vaughan’s “X-Men: First Class” opens the week before, and DC’s “Green Lantern”, with Ryan Reynolds, hits theaters the week after.
